VAT note
Carpentry and joinery on buildings in Ireland is charged at 13.5% VAT - the reduced rate for construction and repair work on immovable property. That covers fitted furniture, doors, staircases and structural timber, including the materials you fit, unless they cost more than two-thirds of the price, when the whole job goes to 23%. Expensive kitchen units can tip a job over that line. If your turnover for services stays below €42,500 in a calendar year, VAT registration is not required.
