The VAT problem
In Ireland, supply-and-fit plumbing work is usually 13.5% VAT for labour and materials together, unless the materials cost more than two-thirds of the price, when the whole job is 23%. Materials sold without fitting are 23%. In the UK, most plumbing work on homes is 20%, with 5% and 0% only for qualifying work. Getting this wrong on an invoice can cause problems with Revenue or HMRC and leave you short.
