What a valid invoice must include

If you are VAT registered, HMRC and Revenue expect specific details on every VAT invoice. The generator has a field for each of the main ones and marks the PDF as a draft until the key details are in. For reverse charge work, add the wording in the notes - or use PayReady, which adds it when you switch reverse charge on.

Not VAT registered?

In the UK, the VAT registration threshold is £90,000 of taxable turnover. In Ireland it is €42,500 for services and €85,000for goods. Below the threshold you do not charge VAT, so leave out VAT lines and a VAT number - untick “I'm VAT registered” in the generator above. Your invoice should still show your name and address, the client's name and address, a unique invoice number, the date, what the work was and the total.
